The composite-ranked No. 13 defensive tackle in the country, the four-star Byers is a 6-foot-4, 275-pound product of Fayetteville, Arkansas. Byers shirked his hometown Razorbacks in favor of the Crimson Tide, including offers from other primetime schools such as: Ohio State, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Michigan, and Florida State.
Byers becomes the 15th commit to join the Crimson Tide 2017 recruiting class, which is currently third best in the nation, but still second in the SEC to Georgia. The first defensive tackle to commit, Byers becomes the 10th 4-star recruit in a class that already features the No. 1 player in the nation in Antioch, California running back Najee Harris.
According to the composite rankings, Byers is the second-best player in the state of Arkansas, behind only safety Montaric Brown, who is currently uncommitted.
The reigning National Champions are a machine. Even with the departure of former defensive coordinator Kirby Smart to Georgia, the recruiting train refuses to stop, which in turn feeds into the Nick Saban domination of not only the SEC, but the country as well.
When Byers joins the team on campus along with his hyped recruiting class in 2017, Alabama will be playing their three non-conference games, but will have an immense collision with Florida State.
