Auburn got a huge recruiting boost Monday when four-star recruit Tray Bishop made a verbal commitment to the Tigers. He made a visit to Auburn Sunday and informed coach Gus Malzahn of his decision.

“Breaking it down with my top three, Auburn topped the list with their honesty and my relationship with the coaches – and the playing time I could get my freshman year,” Bishop said.
The 6-feet-3, 203-pound Bishop is the 12th commitment to Auburn’s 2017 recruiting class and moved the Tigers from No. 18 to No. 13 in 247Sports’ rankings. He’s the No. 3 athlete and No. 148 overall recruit in the 247Sports Composite.
Bishop is listed as an “athlete” in the recruiting rankings and he has set his high school’s record for the 100 meters at 10.4. He’s expected to get a shot at playing quarterback for Auburn and he thinks he’s a great fit in Malzahn’s scheme.
“With my size and my speed, playing quarterback for the Auburn Tigers I can run or pass, so if you’re keying on the run I can hurt you through the air, or vice versa,” Bishop said.
Bishop is from Dawson (Ga.) Terrell County and had Georgia and Florida on his list of finalists. He said he still plans to make official visits to those two schools.
