The University of Maryland football program added to a strong 2017 recruiting class on Sunday afternoon, landing a commitment from four-star offensive lineman Marcus Minor. Minor ultimately chose the Terrapins over the Auburn Tigers, Florida Gators, Miami Hurricanes, Michigan State Spartans, Rutgers Scarlet Knights and Virginia Tech Hokies, who made up his final seven.

He also had offers from several other programs as well.

According to the 247Sports composite player ranking, Minor is rated as the nation’s No. 224 overall player as well as the 28th-best offensive tackle in the class of 2017. He is also rated as the fifth-best player in the state of Maryland.

DeMatha Catholic, a high school in which Minor currently attends, had become a goldmine for Terrapins’ recruiting process a season ago. Offensive tackle Terrance Davis, wide receiver Tino Ellis, running back Lorenzo Harrison and wide receiver D.J. Turner are all former Stags.  The Terrapins are also competing with the Alabama Crimson Tide and Miami Hurricanes for DeMatha running back Anthony McFarland.

The last couple of seasons mark a welcomed change for Maryland, who under previous coach Randy Edsall failed to recruit from DeMatha. The school has attempted to foster a local recruiting pipeline there for years, but did not see much success until the last two seasons.

Minor is notably the 16th member of the Terrapins’ 2017 recruiting class and the sixth four-star recruit. Prior to this addition, Maryland’s class was rated 19th overall in the nation and third in the Big Ten Conference.
