Virginia, Vanderbilt, Seton Hall, and Rhode Island will headline the 2017 Preseason NIT, sources told FanRag Sports.

Official matchups have yet to be determined.

This year’s event will begin on Thanksgiving Day at the Barclays Center with West Virginia taking on Illinois and Florida State facing Temple. The winners and losers of those games will play the very next day in the championship and consolation games.

As for the 2017 field, it is a more than solid one. Unless something unexpected happens or changes, it will likely be formatted in a similar fashion to the event being played this year.

The Preseason NIT is also yet another good non-conference tournament that features a good mix of national powers, mid-major dynamos, programs-to-be, and a few up-and-comers.

Each program in next year’s field has question marks heading into this season, as they will the next, but nearly all are expected in their continued growth from season-over-season. It should help to make the tournament a must-see for many a college basketball fan.

Virginia will represent the ACC. Seton Hall comes out of the Big East. Vanderbilt is in the SEC, while Rhode Island will be there for the Atlantic 10. This gives the tournament plenty of variety.
