Texas A&M is headed for a SEC tilt against the South Carolina Gamecocks on Saturday, but the Aggies will be without a key player along the defensive front in addition to two others. The injury bug is hitting the Aggies hard this week with three notable absences to report before game time.
Star pass rusher Myles Garrett headlines the injury list as the potential top NFL Draft pick will not be involved in Saturdays’s game against the Gamecocks. His inactivity is surely a disappointment for NFL scouts as there will be one less game to evaluate one of the most hyped prospects of the 2016 draft class.
Along with Garrett’s absence, the team has also announced the absences of wide outs Ricky Seals-Jones and Speedy Noil. Both players did not travel with the Aggies to South Carolina, according to ESPN college football reporter Olivia Harlan.
Garrett’s injury will make headlines, but the absences of Seals-Jones and Noil could be equally big for the Aggies’ offense as both players have made plays for the team in the past – particularly Seals-Jones, who has nine career touchdowns and 107 catches for the Aggies in three seasons with the team.
With three notable injuries, the No. 9-ranked Aggies are banged up as road favorites against South Carolina this week in a game where everyone is still expecting to see them win. Tennessee and a road trip to Alabama loom on the schedule so the Aggies’ second focus will be to leave South Carolina healthy.
