Although Tennessee Volunteers coach Butch Jones remained unclear, 247 Sports reports running back Jalen Hurd is expected to miss Saturday’s game against Texas A&M.
Hurd wasn’t a participant at Thursday’s walk through, and he has not practiced all week. Hurd sat out the second half of last week’s victory over Georgia due to a lower extremity injury according to his coach.
The junior running back leads Tennessee with 407 rushing yards and two touchdowns. He also has seven receptions for 82 yards and two additional scores.
Tennessee will also be without starting linebackers senior Jalen Reeves-Maybin and sophomore Darrin Kirkland Jr. Reeves-Maybin has 20 total tackles, including 2.0 tackles for loss. Last season, he led the Volunteers with 105 total tackles and nobody else on the team was close to that mark. Senior defensive back Brian Randolph was second with 70 total tackles.
Kirkland has 16 total tackles, including 1.0 for a loss. Last season as a freshman, Kirkland was fourth on the team with 66 total tackles.
He also has 1.0 sack this year. Last season, Reeves-Maybin and Kirkland combined for 9.0 sacks.
Tennessee won on a Hail Mary with no time left on the clock last week to defeat Georgia 34-31 and stay undefeated. That sets up a top-10 matchup with Texas A&M, who is also undefeated, this weekend.
With a victory, the Volunteers would stay the only unbeaten team in the SEC East, but Texas A&M is trying to keep pace with Alabama in the SEC West. Avoiding a loss this weekend is even more important due to the fact both teams still have the Crimson Tide upcoming on their schedule.
