The 2o17 Puerto Rico Shootout field has been set. The Iowa State Cyclones, Florida State Seminoles, South Carolina Gamecocks, Tulsa Golden Hurricane, UTEP Miners, Illinois State Red Birds, Boise State Broncos, and Western Michigan Broncos will highlight the field, multiple sources told Today’s U and FanRag Sports.
Matchups for the event are yet to be determined.
That doesn’t mean we can’t already look forward to this year’s version of the annual event. It is also full of a great mix of top-tier teams and mid-major dynamos.
The 2016 Puerto Rico Shootout begins during the second week of the college basketball season. First-round matchups include Xavier against Missouri, Davidson versus Clemson, Arizona State against Northern Iowa, and Oklahoma versus Tulane.
It should go without saying, but this event will obviously be a great early season test for some of the nation’s better programs. It can also help in providing mid-majors with a more than suitable platform to prove their worth while becoming increasingly battle-tested by some of the nation’s more powerful teams.
With the season looming in the shadows, what better way to get excited for the start than thinking about one of the sport’s better non-conference tournaments.
