With the 2017 high school football season more than halfway over for most teams, college football recruiters and coaches have access to plenty of new film to evaluate the nation’s top underclassmen. As a result, many new offers have gone out, and Lake Zurich (Ill.) inside linebacker Jack Sanborn has been the recipient of several.
“Right now I have offers from Iowa State, Iowa, Duke, Wisconsin and Indiana,” Sanborn told Today’s U. “Right now I am trying to visit all of those schools so I can learn more about each of them.”
Three of Sanborn’s offers have come this fall and these are the ones he’s focusing on. However, with his stock on the rise, the number of offers is sure to grow.
“I talk to the schools that have offered me pretty often and they say they like my size right now and my instincts and how I move naturally at the linebacker position,” Sanborn said.
The 6-foot-2, 210-pounder, with five offers from Power Five conferences, is hitting the road this weekend to check out the No. 8 Badgers as they host No. 2 Ohio State.
“I am going to Wisconsin on the 15th when they play Ohio State and that is all I have scheduled for now,” Sanborn said earlier this week. “I am planning on making some more.”
After his trip to Madison, the 247Sports, 92 overall four-star will have three college visits under his belt this season.
“I have visited both Northwestern and Notre Dame so far this fall and I liked both of those visits,” Sanborn said.
Sanborn visited Northwestern on Sept. 17 and Notre Dame on Sept. 24. Each time Sanborn enters a college campus and its football facilities, he’s paying close attention to several things which will be key in his decision.
“I would say the academics, the relationship I have with the coaches and teammates, having that family environment and whichever school I feel like is home and I want to live there for the next four years of my life,” Sanborn told Today’s U.
In addition to Northwestern and Notre Dame, several more prestigious schools have been in contact with the four-star and could come through with an offer in the coming months.
“I have also been hearing from Michigan State, Vanderbilt, Notre Dame, Penn State, Syracuse and Northwestern the most of schools that haven’t offered,” Sanborn said.
With roughly 16 months left to figure out where he wants to play college ball, Sanborn is staying wide open in his recruitment. By this time next year, the four-star hopes to have the recruiting process behind him as he focuses on his senior season.
“I will most likely have everything decided by the start of my senior year,” Sanborn said.
So far the Lake Zurich Bears are 5-2 (4-1 in district). They played a road contest against Libertyville Friday night before hosting Mundelein next week to close out the regular season.
